Review of Waiting for Guffman (1997) by Mjs M — 10 Jul 2008
A Christopher Guest mockumentary, probably the one that put his current incarnation on the map. The character Guest creates for himself is what makes this movie, it's a truly hilarious creation. The rest of the movie however is so-so.
There are some decent chuckles throughout, and cute moments throughout. The film's flaw however is that once the play they've been making finally starts, it's bad, but it isn't really comically terrible, it's just about as bad as your average community theater production and as a result the movie's laugh quotient goes down just when it should be revving up.
Still, cute movie.
