Review of Waiting for Armageddon (2009) by Bill V — 22 Oct 2010
The documentary covers what some Christians believe about the end of days. The filmmakers for the most part focus on the evangelical fundamentalist community and their doctrines/opinions around the 2nd advent of Christ and its relationship to the state of Israel.
It jumps off the rails a bit as there is an attempt to establish links between the groups highlighted and US politics in the 1980s and into the 90s. This has been done a million times and it appears cliche here.
The documentary does capture the smugness of some of the people and their "we know how it's going to happen and why" attitude. But is also skips over the historical roots of belief in the rapture and other Christian teachings on the topic of the last days (namely views held by mainline Christian denominations). Also missing is a deeper examination of how these beliefs appeal to people living in Israel today.
A worthwhile documentary to see but keep in mind this is what only one segment of Christians believe about the events surrounding the 2nd coming of Christ and what the Bible teaches on the subject.
