Review of Wait Until Dark (1967) by Michael M — 19 Nov 2007
Miss Hepburn plays the victimized blind woman who is being manipulated by a few thugs only looking to retrieve a doll full of heroine that her husband was given on his way from a trip to Canada.
This particular story works great as a play which it was before the film version was released. The dark, dreary confines of her apartment is the perfect setting for such a thriller.
Other than Audrey's veteran performance Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine) and Richard Crenna (Col.Trautman in the Rambo franchise) give great supporting roles as the henchmen seeking the doll. Alan Arkin's "Roat" character is one of the most interesting villains I've seen on film oddly enough.
Miss Hepburn was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Suzy Hendrix but sadly lost. This would be her last Oscar nomination and her last film until 1975's Robin and Marian.
Wait Until Dark is one of the most captivating 108 minutes caught on film.
