Review of Wait Until Dark (1967) by Ernie P — 28 Nov 2007
One of the better thrillers I've seen in some time. Alan Arkin is terrific, and Audrey Hepburn is very convincing. Very good buildup throughout all the way to the jump-out-of-your-seat ending. A little dated for my liking though.
Although the pace and plot construction are among the best I've seen, I have seen scarier thrillers. I've read that cinemas used to employ special lighting techniques when this film was being shown, and I can see how that would add to the film's impact.
"Wait Until Dark" does lose some of the effectiveness when being viewed in the comforts of home. The blind angle does feel a little gimmick-like at times. Still, a well-paced and well-constructed thriller with good performances.
