Review of Wait Until Dark (1967) by Ian L — 10 Nov 2008
Interesting only as it is curious and odd, despite the fragrant Ms Hepburn being in pretty well every scene. Oddest feature is the soundtrack by Henry Mancini, not sure how much effort he put in, it sounds like he was playing with a blindfold on to 'get in character'. Audrey is very convincing as the blind lead character but when she starts screaming in terror, (and notably clutching her stomach each time), she loses that credibility.
Alan Arkin appears to be acting in his own Peter Sellers style spoof for most of the film while actually being very unpleasant at other times. The bespectacled girl from upstairs bears a striking resemblance to Ugly Betty's character, everyone else really just pads the frame out.
Not sure how this would work on the stage but would like to see that Tarantino / Tomei version mentioned by another reviewer as I reckon they could bring this promising plot to life.
