Review of Waist Deep (2006) by Aaron J — 06 Oct 2007
This movie had an awesome trailer that left me with the thought, "hmm, this might be a really good movie." It's an okay movie and it doesn't keep you waiting long before the action jumps off. There was an obvious fuck up after the action starts off, but it's not something that totally messes up a movie. I'll tell you about it right now:
Tyrese and his son are in a car. His son is in the back seat sleeping. A super smoking Meagan Good comes up then, shit jumps off. Tyrese gets car-jacked and chases a car (on food) down several blocks until he's tired, at which point he rests in the middle of the road, looks to his right...and sees Meagan Good.
Now, if you drive away from Meagan Good, get car-jacked, run several blocks down the road in an attempt to catch up to the car and your son in the back seat, and finally stop when you're tired, Meagan Good won't be conveniently off to the side. She would be several blocks down the road where you first left her ass.
You would think this movie was about a man's quest for his son, but that laserbeam plot takes a back seat to, what is actually the central conflict, 02's (Tyrese) trouble with Big Meat (The Game). This movie's okay, the dialog is weak and the writer is really wanting to spread some messages to her audience. It has 1) a be a good father message (the mother is the deadbeat in his picture).
2) a commentary on violence as the action takes place during an anti-violence rally.
3) a few Bonnie and Clyde parallels.
4) an anti-drug message (its' his fault that shit went down the way that it did).
5) a message about the evils of wife-beating.
And.
6) a brief mention of the video games/reality confusion topic.
Meagan Good is in this movie and she is hot.
Not all that original. Not all that great. It is still pretty good.
Bonus: The ending was LAME! Especially without any information.
