Review of Waist Deep (2006) by Chris E — 07 Apr 2015
In one of Tyrese Gibson's earlier leading roles he takes on a fully cliched story about an ex con trying to get back his kidnapped son. In the vein of other "urban" stories like "Boyz N The Hood", this film works and the acting from Gibson is pretty good as you felt his emotions as a father trying to regain his son.
While not the best in the genre, with the majority of the characters and plot predictable and not going for anything overly serious, the film works on a pure entertainment level and brings us a solid popcorn thriller.
C+.
