Review of Wadjda (2012) by Jason M — 30 Oct 2013
A near perfect film. An inside look at Saudi life. The story stars a 12 year old girl intent on buying a bicycle, but the film is much, much more than the story. See the reality of Saudi life behind closed doors.
There's nothing mean spirited about this film; the director conveys the determination and light-hearted spirit of a child who knows what she wants in a society that doesn't approve. The scenes in her school classroom show us the world in which girls are taught.
Some, like Wadgda, will clearly decide for themselves how to live their lives.
