Review of W. (2008) by Marybeth F — 30 Jul 2009
This was one of the best films I've seen this year. I wish that I would've seen it in theaters. It gets confusing at times if you're not politically-savvy or knowledgeable when they go into fast-talking conversations, but it gives a detailed, almost-unbiased look into the life of our 43rd President, and what he's gone through.
The actors do a terrific job at bringing out just enough of their characters' mannerisms and styles to not appear like they're making a joke of them yet enough to be funny at times. The only things that I didn't like were that it was very fast-paced and crammed full of relatively short scenes that make you wonder just when it'll be over, but otherwise it was perfect.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a history lesson or just wants a good movie (although, anyone who's a hard-core (insert political orientation here) may want to veer away from it, since it does make a few cracks--especially at, of course, Dubya himself.
A great film. A disappointment that it wasn't nominated for any Oscars, though. (4 out of 4 stars, for those that roll that way.).
