Review of W. (2008) by Kareem Y — 14 Nov 2009
Alright, but I was expecting a bit more depth. It takes a lot of the usual shots at Bush (and sometimes thet are very forced), and spends too long portraying him as wanting to earn his father's approval that it kind of takes over, making him more sympathetic than he should be.
Not a fulfilling take on a failed president, though Brolin himself is excellent in the role, as is Wright. Other performances, though, border on parody. Thandie Newton, for example, gets so caught up trying to imitate Condoleeza's mannerisms that she forgets to display any emotion.
