Review of W. (2008) by Kevin R — 07 May 2010
We've got a walking brain here.
George W. Bush is known as one of the worst presidents in the history of our country. The movie W. depicts George Bush's rise to power, some of the internal struggles, and his disastrous run as president. Whether you are a republican, democrat, Bush supporter, or Bush hater, this film provides excellent insight on the decisions made by Bush.
"We are a country of wounded sinners.".
Oliver Stone, director of Natural Born Killers, Alexander, World Trade Center, JFK, Platoon, Wall Street, The Doors, Born on the 4th of July, Nixon, U-Turn, and Any Given Sunday, delivers W. The storyline for this picture is fascinating and well delivered. The acting is marvelous and the cast includes Josh Brolin, Colin Hanks, Richard Dreyfuss, Thandie Newton, and Scott Glenn.
"I'm probably the fastest president in history.".
I am at the front of the line of those who call George W. Bush an idiot. I am from Maine, where his family has a summer home and I have heard numerous stories of his party days including being busted smoking pot and being involved with underage drinking. Nevertheless, I found the depiction of his youth and rise to power fascinating and well delivered. There were some moments that were unnecessarily sympathetic, but maybe I'm bias. This film really makes one think how far ambition, a reputable last name, and the right supporting cast can get you. I recommend seeing this film.
"Shock and awe. I like that.".
Grade: B.
