Review of W. (2008) by Sol C — 14 May 2010
I found the film interesting. However, I think Oliver Stone dropped the ball with this film. I didn't like the style of the film. Going back and fourth from Bush in the White House to his evolution to becoming the President at times was confusing and distracting. I think he should have told the story the straight and linear chronological time line rather than going back and fourth.
In addition, Stone uses too many close up and extreme close ups which at times can seem annoying.
On the positive, Josh Brolin is dead on as his performance as Bush. James Cromwell, Elizabeth Banks, and Richard Dreyfuss are top notch in their roles. However everyone else in the cast seem like they are doing impressions and impersonations of the real life people, the same way that Saturday Night Live does the impersonations of those people.
