Review of W. (2008) by Geoffrey T — 11 Apr 2012
I admire what this film tries to do. It humanizes Bush, and analyzes his psychology in a way that almost sympathizes with him, but it doesn't make any excuses for him either. In fact, I can't even really explain the cognitive dissonance I have for this film.
It jumps around entirely too much, and switches genres constantly between satire and seriousness, biopic and all-out fantasy. But Josh Brolin is amazing, and it's intentions seem to be good. It doesn't demonize anybody, and frankly, it's not full of shit.
It just needed a bit more focus.
