Old Blue Eyes in the role of a pilot shot down behind enemy lines in Italy, leading mostly British POW's in an escape on a train. Sergio Fantoni and Sinatra's low-key, smouldering performance contrasted with Howard's grizzled angry soldier role, makes this WWII yarn believable.
