Review of Von Ryan's Express (1965) by Aaron K — 28 Jan 2014
You'll get your iron cross now.
During World War II some ally troops, primarily Italian and British, are in a German prisoner camp. An American arrives at the camp and quickly becomes the leader of the troops. The troops never had much confidence in escaping, but when the American arrives with his brash and cunning ways, they have hope. Hope can go a long way.
"If you betray us I promise you'll pay for it.".
Mark Robson, director of Valley of the Dolls, Earthquake, Peyton Place, Bedlam, The Ghost Ship (1943), Isle of the Dead, and Hell Below Zero, delivers Von Ryan's Express. The storyline for this picture is very interesting and unfolds well. The characters are very interesting as are the landscapes and villains. The acting is perfect and the cast includes Frank Sinatra, James Brolin, Trevor Howard, Brad Dexter, and John Leyton.
"I said strip.".
I caught this film off Netflix because it was very highly rated. I did think this was a wonderful period piece that contained very unique and dynamic characters. I strongly recommend this war time drama if you're a fan of the genre.
"All the comforts of home.".
Grade: B.
