Review of Volver (2009) by Sheng G — 17 Sep 2009
Writer / Director Pedro Almodovar doesn't need fancy camera tricks and a big production budget to deliver a movie that moves you. Like "Talk To Her" this is an intimate look into Spanish culture through the eyes of working class people getting wrapped up in strange and bizarre behavior.
Almodovar is almost comically melodramatic in his contrivances, but his stories have so much heart and soul, that you willingly dive into the madness just to see what on earth will transpire. Speaking in her native Spanish, Penelope Cruz is fantastic and well worthy of all the nominations and accolades she garnered from this film.
