Review of Volver (2006) by Ali M — 09 Apr 2010
Though it is no Talk to Her, Volver is still one of Almodovar's masterpieces. A brilliant picture of the intersecting lives of sisters and mothers capitalizing on Almodovar's ability to bring the power of women to life.
The stories are as dark as ever, but they're balanced perfectly with just the right amount of tragedy. Watching Penelope Cruz unfold upon the screen is a stunning spectacle that opened the door to roles such as in Vicky, Christina, Barcelona.
Beautiful work.
