Review of Volver (2006) by Vittorio C — 05 Jul 2009
Almodovar has been on a winning streak lately (I think people will think of this as his golden era), and this whimsical magical realist film won me over. But the triumph was as much Cruz's as Almodovar and his greatest aset is still his ability to depict multi dimensional interesting female chracters.
Some of this seems to be a homage to '60s Italian comdies and Cruz is sometimes dressed and made up to resemble a young Sophia Loren.
