Review of Volver (2006) by Daisy M — 15 Apr 2010
Volver started at a cemetery where women were cleaning the graves on a windy day. Raimunda played by Penelope Cruz was also attending her mother's grave, together with her sister and her daughter.Penelope Cruz gave here one of her finest performances.
As Raimunda, she spoke her mind, she was energetic, brave and a risk taker, but also vulnerable.Volver was about these female characters and I loved these women and I felt involved in their stories.Like most Almodovar's movies the soundtrack was part of the narration, that brought out the richness of the atmosphere created by the wonderful cinematography.
Volver was funny, colorful, disturbing, uplifting with a well told story and lovable characters portrayed wonderfully by these Spanish actresses.
