Review of Visitor Q (2001) by Aimee . — 01 Oct 2006
My friend Keith brought this one over. He has a friend who seems to specialize in finding the most strange, bizarre, and disturbing films, mostly from Japan.
I like the fun it's poking at family values. I like the message that you'll find if you go beyond the gory surrealism. I don't think most people "get it", because they're too focused on the gore, the obscenity, and the surreal script. If you can't get beyond the obscenity, you most likely hate this film. Of course, if you're that wound up by obscenity, what are you doing watching a Japanese film from one of the most notoriously obscene directors in the genre??
In the end, the disfunctional family comes together in the grisley task of cleaning up dead bodies, but isn't it most important that they're finally working together?
I think John Waters and Takashi Miike should get together to do it right!
