Review of Visitor Q (2001) by Andrew K — 30 May 2007
While this is overtly one of the most outrageously offensive and disturbing black comedies ever made, Takashi Miike's "reality TV" videotape about familial dysfunction and surreal reunion is ironically (and oddly) conservative in it's belief in the family unit.
It also uses comedic episodes of extreme violent or sexual perversion to show how everyone has a personal demon or character flaw and yet can still lead on some modicum of normality. Shocking and offensive as it is, it has a positive message and, when seen in the right context, will make you laugh like you've never laughed in your life.
