Review of Vision Quest (1985) by Renee P — 07 Sep 2010
Maybe its because the movie came out shortly after I graduated from high school and is therefore congruent with many of my memories of that time (thank god the hair was a little more under control than in the early 80s!) or because I found the book at a used bookstore in St.
Paul (without knowing anything of the story) and read it over a Christmas holidays at a time when I needed an inspiring story with a touch of teen romance...for whatever reason, I liked this movie, and thought the dialogue was surprisingly intelligent.
It could have been a real clunker, like many of the teen/high school movies from this era, but it had real heart and more lines to live by than lines to be embarrassed about. Oh, and its also something else to see a teenage Madonna performing on a stage in a bar in Spokane, Washington.
Brought back a lot of memories of wrestling in gym class. Not exactly Peaceful Warrior stuff, but similar, in a more everyday kind of way.
