Review of Viridiana (1962) by Darryl J — 02 Sep 2008
This film is famous for it's recreation of The Last Supper but it's so much more than that. The way he makes his statements on charity, religion, and the human condition are unlike any I've seen.
The dog under the carriage, the milking scene, and the all the sexuality. The sexuality bit is probably expected from Buñuel especially if you've seen his short film(which you probably have) Un Chien Andalou.
I don't view this as a attack on Christianity but just as the story of this one girl and her journey through her own life. The last scene is pretty perfect and oh so NOT subtle.
