Review of Viridiana (1962) by Nathan F — 09 May 2009
So often do movies take the easy turn on an old cliche, not this one. It shows a woman who wants to be a nun, a woman who wants to help the homeless by building a shelter. Any other director would make this a Hollywood sap picture about the endearing nature of the human spirit and blah blah blah.
No, not Bunuel, Viridiana shows that a lot of homeless people are homeless for a reason, and that disgusting and cruel are not qualities reserved for certain classes. Either you're good, or you're bad, and if you don't know which you are then you're better off dead.
.. the basic message I took away from this flick, hah. Overall, it's great, probably one that will grow on me, and I plan on watching it again soon.
