(1961) Viridiana.
(In Spanish with English subtitles).
DRAMA.
Plotless storyline about life of a nun and her devotion to the Christian faith and the obstacles Viridiana had to face in Bunuel fashion. Known surrealist Luis Bunuel loves pushing the envelope, and this film was still banned from his native Spain even after still complying to changing his original ending of this film upon the year of it's release! Although their isn't much surrealism, it still consist of alot of 'subtle' references upon the Christian faith such as "The Last Supper" which is extremely evident here and the suicidal death of Viridiana's sleazy uncle! The movie asks alot of questions leaving no answers for those questions! More of a statement than it is a story!
3 out of 4.
