Review of Villegas (2012) by Alan W — 17 Oct 2012
Quiet and slow - this is too reminiscent of the typical American mumblecore indie - Estebans at a Funeral, if you will. Not a lot happens on this half road trip, half family drama where pretty photography and meaningful gazes can mean almost anything you wish to interpret into it as nothing is spelt out and the audience is invited to fill in too many blanks.
Not a bad film per se, but narratively just too abstract and vague for me (and the uncomfortably warm cinema didnt help either).
