This is the point where John Carpenter started to suck, much in the same way that Romero lost it after Bruiser. This is the worst of Carpenter's remakes (see The Thing for an example of what to do to make a kick ass remake) and falls flat in almost every way.
Avoid it unless you're a die hard fan of Carpenter.
