Review of Village of the Damned (1995) by Peter H — 08 Sep 2009
It seems it was around here that John Carpenter became to give up this throne as horror master. The film is creepy at times, but just way too choppy and awkward making it hard to watch. Most of the acting is bad and it's not even even the violence is that great.
It looks more like a bad made for TV Sci-Fi Channel original. I'm sticking with the classic 1960 cult original. Maybe if this was made by some no name horror director for TV I wouldn't be so harsh, but from the man who scared the hell out of me with Halloween and brought new respect with The Thing he could have done a whole lot better.
Just too awkward to be tense and not violent enough to be enjoyable in that regard either.
