Review of Videodrome (1983) by Burt M — 27 Oct 2008
Seriously wtf???????
Here's the thing I dislike about David Croenberg's films. He has two tricks in his magic bag- special effects/makeup effcts and his point. He clobbers the viewer over the head with the effects, layering it on and on to get to his point, which he then shoves down your throat. He can't really let the viewer just figure out the message themselves, he has to drive it home for them. And here the effects obscure what the point of the movie really is, or I should rather say one of his many, many points that he has going on. Film is even weirder than the Fly, if possible. Pass- and read a Marshall Mcluhan book instead.
