Review of Videodrome (1983) by Alissa M — 26 Nov 2008
Ooky, sci-fi philosophy with a dash of techno exploitation. it was political and confusing and darkly comic-or maybe it wasn't supposed to be funny... I dunno. I personally found the 'video slot' amusing.
3 stars. cronenberg is great at what he does. however, if you want to watch his stuff, I recommend his more recent films such as Eastern Promises and A History of Violence. for the gross-out factor, The Fly is a good choice. and I am going to mention, yet again, eXistenze which accomplishes much of what Videodrome does, but with more style, in my opinion.
Anyhoo. in response to this film:
I am now afraid of cable tv, vhs tapes, james woods and homeless shelters. and debbie harry (of blondie) is in this movie. I mean, dubya tee eff??
Also, I am pretty sure that my optical shop is a front for something far more sinister than just selling glasses.
Thank you Mr. Cronenberg and Videodrome for making me question reality. yet again.
