Review of Videodrome (1983) by Brandon R — 13 May 2010
An odd but ambitious film about the dangers of technology and the effect of certain visual stimuli on the human mind. Certain technological elements date Videodrome to the early 80s but that's hardly the point, the physiological and sociological issues brought forward by David Cronenberg have only increased in relevance over time.
We now live in a world where our collective attention and sense of reality and morality fluctuate based on the constant barrage of electronic stimulation we receive from television, internet, cell phones and the dozens of other electronic devices that have come to dominate our culture.
Videodrome is a distorted and frighteningly accurate funhouse mirror of our times.
