Review of Video Games: The Movie (2014) by Geoffrey T — 16 Jul 2014
As one of the numerous Kickstarter backer that made this 'documentary' possible, I am sad to say that, as an avid gamer, I was really dissapointed. Like I've seen other say : "It looks like a huge 2h advertisement campain".
I've watched countless documentaries. I have familiarised with the core concept of them and seen the good, the bad and the ugly. This... thing is not part of any of that. It relies on flashy effect to entertain watchers who most likely already knows all of this. I would rather categorise this movie as a long reaction video. I already see the title it could have on Youtube : "The Big Names of Video Games react to Gaming History! (Now with more Reggie Fils-Aime).
I could write an entire review of this, but I know that better reviewers already ripped this reaction movie appart. I will just say this. For somebody who waited a year for this to come out, I was met with piece and bits of history available to the public with next to no research required attached together to make it look coherent. I was met with a pile of potential wasted to flashy effect and nostalgia-flavored food. I was met with the phrase -it could be better-.
