Review of Victoria & Abdul (2017) by Andrew K — 04 Oct 2017
There was a smile on my face from the get go. Accepting that this is not a historical film, but rather, a light-hearted , visually pleasing, story of an unlikely friendship. The quick-whit writing, Art Direction and Costuming is outstanding and the film allows the characters to develop their roles effectively.
While others have been saying the film falls short of this and that, I think the essence of the film is just that. ... defies protocols and adds some spice to the mundane aristocracy of power by an unlikely, lower cast "Indian, in so doing, creating a comic film.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, laughed out loud at times, and even a tear. You must go see it. Great light, fun film. Dame Judi Dench is outstanding in her role of the aging queen and from Bollywood to Hollywood break through actor Fazal Ali as, Abdul is gentle and kind in his role.
Well done.
