Review of Victor Frankenstein (2015) by Brandon W — 14 Nov 2016
Victor Frankenstein is directed by Paul McGuigan, and it says James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe in yet, another adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein about Igor (Daniel Radcliffe) being a circus act that gets roughed around by people that work in the circus.
He gets fascinated in the human body, and when Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy) goes to the circus, he saw Igor's talent and teams up with him to create life out of the dead. I was curious about the only aspect of the film, and that is Max Landis's writing as I've enjoyed his work in Chronicle, and I wanted to see more of his work.
I don't know if it's because of the bad reviews that lower my expectations, but I had a lot of fun with this movie. Daniel Radcliffe did a lot better job as Igor than I thought as he's actually the main character, not Victor, and he's given a lot of his material in here that worked really well.
James McAvoy is having a blast that I haven't seen him this insanely enjoyable since Filth. The main characters have such great chemistry that gives out some humor, heart, and character development.
The production design looks really cool that really has the kind of feel of the old days, and I like the writing by Max Landis that gave the movie a bit of a spark to it. When it shows the monster that Frankenstein created, it looks really good with all the practical and make-up effects.
It's got some moments that I do feel like something that the studio wanted in it, and the campy stuff would not necessarily be for all the viewers. It does get a bit slow at times, but the movie kept me interested throughout the film that I think Victor Frankenstein is a great film.
