Review of Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) by Jiana W — 07 Mar 2011
It was alright. Personally, I was rooting for the Vicky-Juan Antonio pairing throughout the entire film. I wasn't too crazy about the voice-over narration from a guy who does not appear in the film. I guess to me it kind of breaks the "show, don't tell" guideline. Sometimes it's fine to disregard that but I found the narration to over-explain everything, including everyone's emotions instead of the actors just showing us through their... you know, acting.
That aside, the film is beautifully shot with fantastic scenery and some pretty good performances, specifically from Rebecca Hall and Penelope Cruz. Javier Bardem is just.... gorgeous. Muy guapo.
