Review of Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) by Matthew S — 22 May 2012
The whole movie is as comically brash and impetuous as its Javier Bardem character, who, within the first 15 minutes, offers a weekend of chit-chat and sex to a pair of young women he bumps into at a café -- spontaneity would be an understatement.
Woody Allen's storybook narration and brisk plotting are likewise pretty bold and unexpected and sort of silly. All these techniques mostly come together, just like the story, and the result is fun and cheeky.
