Review of Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) by Michael L — 10 Dec 2011
Intolerably boring, Woody adores Europe but he just doesn't get it, he worships it and with that there is non of the acerbic wit doled out to the Manhattan set in the great films. We're not like this: always having breakfast outdoors, going for trips to see a sculpture, going to see a church.
Maybe in some way this would explain the extraordinarily poor economic situation in the EU but it's not true. Despite the attempts at pathos from the narrator, this is a romantic tourist vision and wherever Woody sets his whimsy - London, Paris, Barcelona - it doesn't work.
Yet another "return to form" by Woody, so disappointing that all subsequent Woody films can also carry the tag of a "return to form" too.
