Review of Vice (2018) by Shawn D — 11 Jan 2019
There is a clear message in Vice and it pertains to both Republican and Democrat. It is made crystal clear when the credits role and it is simple and obvious: Stupid Americans that are party based or ignorant run this country and they are not astute enough to see who they are really voting for.
Vice is clearly one of the best movies of 2018 not only for it's terrific acting and editing but because it asks questions that have no solutions in our society today. Truthfully Dick Cheney is vilified harshly in this film and Bush is made out as inept as possible.
The line of fact and fiction is very precarious at times. I myself have read Cheney's auto-biography as well as many presidential books as that part of America is my own passion. So to be clear I have preference to movies such as this especially when the acting of Adams, Bale and Carrel are amazing.
Yet unlike Oliver Stone's Nixon or W the film does not offer a humanity to Cheney. He is a storm of power with little if and or no loyalties. This lack of humanity is at the very core of the film as it suggests that one man alone controlled the world through the ignorance, loyalty or fear of those around him.
Sadly it's the fear of you dear Americans that this film is trying to tap into. When voters are straddled to slogans and finger pointing it easily proves the message of this film. It also makes sense of this day and age when Presidents like Trump and Obama who have no governing political experience followed George Bush.
