Review of Vice (2018) by Elizabeth R — 28 Dec 2018
We saw this movie last night and were mesmerized. The writing and acting were first rate. Somebody (s) did a lot of research going back as far as the early 60s to connect all the dots in this political thriller.
The transformation of Christian Bale into Dick Cheney is masterful: the makeup, his hair, his portly stature, mannerisms & the way he had of talking out of the side of his mouth. He IS Cheney. Amy Adams gave a credible performance as Lynne Cheney who was as ambitious as Dick Cheney, maybe more so. The actor who played George W. Bush sounded and sometimes looked like him. It was uncanny. Of course, the portrayal showed him to be a political greenhorn, which naturally allowed Cheney and others to manipulate him.
If this film doesnï¿ 1/2(TM)t show you how we Americans can be manipulated by our government, then youï¿ 1/2(TM)re not paying attention. And that is, of course, why we have Donald Trump as our President. Not enough American citizens are paying attention and connecting the dots. If we donï¿ 1/2(TM)t wise up, weï¿ 1/2(TM)ll end up with a dictator. This film is scary good. Period.
