Review of Very Bad Things (1998) by James J — 28 May 2010
This is more than just a dark comedy filled with douche bags. It becomes one of the most irritating things I have ever watched. There is one moment of promise -- the stripper/security cop scene. This single scene is why it gets a 2/10 instead of an elusive 1/10.
But after that, it becomes stupid again. 95% of the dialogue consists of inane screaming, hyperventilating, and insane arguments. It gets really, really tiring. And everyone shares the annoying roles, starting with Cameron Diaz and going all the way down to Christian Slater.
Daniel Stern's character is the most annoying of them all. Luckily, he's not in the entire film, but when he is gone through necessity, everyone else ramps up their irritation game. Oh, and just when I don't think things can get worse, it becomes downright insulting to handicapped people while Cameron Diaz is at her bad acting worst.
Luckily, this is when the film ends.True to its title, this film is full of Very Bad Things. I've seen bad movies recently, but at least they're usually somewhat entertaining. This one is low on the entertainment side.
I'm gonna shut up now. Don't see it.
