Review of Vertigo (1958) by Vern H — 20 Dec 2012
Vertigo may run a little long or linger in it's middle, but nevertheless is is a fascinating and uniquely compelling romantic thriller that certainly grows on you. Thanks to it's surprising strong emotional complexity, a wonderful dream-like feel to it, impressive visual flair in many sequences, rich and deep performances, especially from the suffering James Stewart, interesting and realistic characters who we can sympathize with, an intricate and winding script, elegant cinematography, moody and atmospheric lighting/set design, and very genuine and passionate direction from Alfred Hitchcock, it ends up being one of his most mature and memorable.
