Review of Vertigo (1958) by Andy A — 17 Feb 2012
Vertigo is the ultimate film for any movie buff! Known as Hitchcock's masterpiece, Vertigo is a stunning visual and dreamy type film. A poetic piece of cinematic artistry, Hitchcock does a visually brilliant job of directing the moody movie to a timeless success, while making his actors look brilliant! James Stewart gives perhaps is best performance as he mysteriously glides through the screen, while portraying an obsessed man.
In her best role, by far, Kim Novak gives one of the greatest performances in film history as the complex Madeline/Judy, while fulfilling the role of the director's obsession with blondes, which is deeply shown in his most personal film.
The script is magnificent and features many surprising thrills and loads of classic Hitchcock suspense, as well as romantic melodrama, while holding one of the most artistic and horrifying endings in movie history.
Bernard Hermann composing such a hauntingly beautiful score and the whole production is outstanding. Vertigo is one of the most important films in its history and is a riveting masterpiece and a timeless classic, which gets better and better as the years go by.
