Hitchcock weaves another brilliant web of intrigue in this James Stewart-Kim Novak thriller; however, despite recent acclaim as the "best" film of all-time, Vertigo seems to languish in spurts, leaving this reviewer placing it behind other Hitchcock gems like 38 Steps; Strangers on a Train or even I, Confess (to name but three).

This being said, there is no shame in a director's work being lesser-than other entries in one's cannon - especially one as lofty as Hitchcock's. Watch for Alfred's usual jazzy camera techniques - made even more impressive without a computer around.

Vertigo IS a true classic. The acclaim of late, however, can make even the most ardent Hitch fan dizzy. Very good, yes. Great? Perhaps. Greatest of all time? No.
