Review of Vertigo (1958) by Joao P — 05 Oct 2012
Now voted by critics as the greatest movie of all time on the S&S poll it's time for my little review. It's a wonderful movie, and everytime I watch it it grows a little bit on me; so I'm afraid that sooner or later this will be my favourite movie of all time, something that right now it's unbelievable to me due to the mighty 2001: A Space Odissey.
But there's no doubt that it's Hitchcock's real masterwork beyond Psycho, NbN, Rear Window, Shadow of a Doubt and etc. Vertigo isn't just a mystery thriller, it's a psychological dense movie that reflects a lot of the concerns and issues that tortured Hitch's complex mind.
It's like a director's redemption when confronted with a lot of mistakes he has made through the years. Most of all it's a beautiful poem that surpasses all his previous and future works. If you think it's a simple movie and you got it all in 4 or 5 views, you're probably wrong.
