Review of Vertigo (1958) by David S — 14 Mar 2013
Greatest film score ever? Check. Jimmy Stewart's best performance? Check. The best "slow" movie ever? Check. Alfred Hitchcock's greatest masterpiece? (A short list: Psycho, North by Northwest, Strangers on a Train, Shadow of a Doubt, Rear Window, and Notorious) Yes.
Critics now consider this to be the best American movie of all time; In 1958 it was seen as a failure without an Academy Award nomination. What did win in '58? Gigi. Oh.
