Is it the best movie ever made? Debatable. It's certainly the most artful. Hitchcock's finest achievement is about the destructive power of love, the loneliness of consciousness, the tragedy of cinema, all brought into focus through sumptuous ambiguity and beguiling technical virtuosity.
