Review of Vertigo (1958) by Robyn M — 22 Jul 2012
A lot pf people think Vertigo is a masterpiece of a film and it's hands down Alfred Hitchcock's best movie! I for one agree with the first part the movie is a masterpiece, but I don't agree that this movie Alfred Hitchcock's best because I think everyone knows that Psycho is the best Hitchcock film.
Psycho was perfectly directed, well acted and very scary. Now this movie Vertigo is a different Hitchcock film, it's not really scary like The Birds and Psycho, it's more of a Thriller like Rear Window and Strangers On A Train, but this movie has a little more Drama than those movies.
I for one didn't hate the Drama in this movie, I thought it worked very well with the story and the character development. The one thing I didn't like about this movie was the fact it was too long, there were so many pointless scenes in this movie that they should have just cut them out because I don't even know why they were relevant to anything, all it did was make the movie drag on which I didn't like.
This movie Vertigo is a terrific movie though, it has an incredible story that has lots of thrills and twists in it and of course Alfred Hitchcock's amazing direction made the movie even more enjoyable.
Another thing I liked was the music, the music was very dark and very thrilling and it made the movie more intense and it made more creepy which was cool even though the movie itself wasn't creepy.
Anyways James Stewart and Kim Novak play the two leads in the movie and for me I couldn't stand the lead actress in this movie, she was very dull and so monotone throughout the whole movie which was annoying, so sorry Kim Novak not your best performance.
But now as for James Stewart he was great in this movie, he actually got right into his character and by the end you really feel sympathy for him. Now we get to the ending I loved the ending of this movie, I know some people didn't but I did.
The ending was a little rushed which sucked but it was still very shocking and really unexpected which I did like, Alfred Hitchcock really knows how to end a movie. So as you can tell I loved this movie very much, yes I did have some problems with it, but I still think it's a very good movie and well worth a watch.
