Review of Versus (2000) by Gord T — 23 Nov 2007
This movie was about as great as imported action can get! a great new idea for zombies (coming back to life in the Forest of Resurrection). it is a group of peoples destiny to return to the forest so one evil man can finally open a passageway to the darkside.
but the escaped convict he had rescued and the girl he had kidnapped were less than anxious to hand themselves over to play their roles. the forest is filled with tough, armed zombies (because the forest is also a mob grave site).
the zombie action was awesome and the 80's styled, CG-less effects were phenominal. it was great to see that some of the stuff was just throw together and worked off the writer/directors (kitamura) ideas.
some cool swords and guns. fun, high paced zombie fighting. I thought there was going to be a sequel but there isn't... maybe a good idea leaving it where it went? if you like anything like guns, swords, hand-to-hand fights, japanese people or zombies in any single or combination you may like this movie.
I thought it was great! it also had some funny twists (that were deleted) unfortunately I didn't get in my copy... even though it was the special edition... where the hell is the 30mins of deleted comic relief!?
