Review of Versus (2000) by Geoffrey L — 04 Jul 2008
This one holds a special place in my heart for being so freakin' ridiculous. I know that the movie is mediocre from a technical standpoint, with the first half looking like it was shot hand-held. The dubbing is of course horrid, and from the commentary, Sakaguchi-san took his sweet time learning how to act. Still, it is entertaining as all hell, and the fighting is impressive, given that there were no stuntmen, and no professional trainers.
In short, "Versus" is the japanese love-child of "Highlander" and "Evil Dead", and it brings the cheese of both. Seriously: in the first scene, the zombies have KATANAS.
