Review of Versus (2000) by Mats N — 17 Sep 2009
Not all films are good because of their story, Versus is one such film. The budget is low, the story is as thin as a wafer and it's the type of quirky that you can only get from Japan. This is no masterpiece for sure, but it's one hell of an amusing thing to watch.
The characters are completely over the top, and not always in a good way either, some of them are just annoying, and you won't be finding much depth in this film. What you will find though is action and by that I mean action as it should be, stylish and entertaining. This is a film that survives on style alone, I find it difficult to find films like that now a days. Mainly because most action films as of late seem to be very keen on making sure that the action is filmed in such a way that it is completely unwatchable.
If you ever want a different an action film that is packed full of style and you don't mind leaving your brain at the doorstep, this film is perfect for you. Just make sure to watch the director's cut, the original version is a mess.
